Blind Alphabet C - The Blind Leading The Sighted Sat 20 Nov—Sun 5 Dec. South African artist Willem Boshoff creates twenty wooden sculptures, each representing an unfamiliar word beginning with C, which can be best appreciated by the sense of touch. During the exhibition, visually-impaired guides take sighted people around the display.

The Girl's Room Tour The Travelling Gallery’s new show features the work of Munich-based artist Pia Lanzinger following her residency at the City Art Centre. The Happy Prince *itii
Oscar Wilde’s stories for children are always moving but can often be rather bleak, so it was impressive to find an adaptation which transforms the original story into a lively and humorous piece of theatre for young people. The story follows the adventures of a cheeky young swallow who delays his traditional migration to Egypt after meeting a golden statue, The Happy Prince. When the Prince tells of the hardship suffered by the townspeople, the swallow willingly becomes his partner, delivering precious jewels to the needy. A tale of friendship and charity, there is also plenty of fun here to keep the young crowd entertained. The audience warms to the inquisitive swallow, while the two actors playing the assorted townspeople add a touch of slapstick humour to the proceedings.
The magical set features a projected backdrop where city lights twinkle in the distance and blue sky and clouds float by, but one of the most impressive aspects of the production is the imaginative use of animation. As the swallow describes its journeys to far off lands, we are treated to an animated view of the world, using images created by some of the local schoolchildren.
While the consequences of the swallow's decision not to fly off for the winter may have you reaching for the tissues, the play manages to end on an upbeat note, ensuring the theatre isn't left with a crowd of bawling toddlers. Indeed the faces leaving the theatre were plastered with smiles, and everyone was handed a free activity pack full of ideas for drama and artwork
