Agnes artin And John McLaughlin Until Sun 31 Oct. A two-person show featuring the work of abstract artists Agnes Martin and John McLaughlin. Canadian-born Martin came to prominence in New York in the late 19505. Famous for her geometric, abstract works and rectilinear patterns, Martin continues to be an influential figure. Still painting at the age of 87 here exhibited (she showed work at the gallery in 1974), are fourteen works on canvas completed in the last four years. Showing alongside Martin are paintings and prints by John McLaughlin (1898-1976). He is seen as America’s first great abstract painter although he is not widely known to the public at large, due to his self-imposed detachment from the New York art scene.

Bates crafts outfits out of human hair. Saunders distorts the dream of the rural idyll. Hoberrnan paints children on the cusp of adulthood.
The Multiple Store Until Sat 25 Sep. (Cafe and bookshop space). The Multiple Store is a new organisation which commissions and sells limited edition multiples by leading British artists. This, the first collection, features multiples by Keith Coventry, Dalziel & Scullion, Grenville Davey, Graham Gussin, Kenny Hunter, Cornelia Parker and Simon Periton.
10am-5pm (8pm Tue); Sun noon—5pm. £3 (£1.50); under 185 free. This is the newest addition to our national museum selection and the only one dedicated solely to Scotland’s history and heritage. The building contains five thematically- arranged exhibitions, moving from pre- history, through the Industrial Revolution, to the present day, at which point national heroes such as Billy Connolly and Elaine C. Smith get involved.
