California Fibres combine fine and applied art to create tapestry, paper, basketry, twining, quilting and multi- media pieces and the Celtic Felters comprise Scottish and Irish members of the lntemational Feltmakers Association. Specially commissioned for the show is a felt tent or ‘Yurt’.
Animate And Fascinate Sat 4 Sep-Sat 9 Oct. A look at the diversity of animation and the influence of digitalisation on traditional techniques. Featured in the exhibition is a selection of artwork taken from British animations, broadcast on both a national and international scale.

New Artists Until Fri 31 Dec. A new gallery space for Glasgow showcases the work of up-and-coming artists from Glasgow and the rest of Scotland. The work encompasses a variety of media from sculpture and textile design to paintings and jewellery, changing the line-up on a monthly basis.

Ettore Sottsass And Associates Until Fri 24 Sep. (Mackintosh Gallery and Studios). A look at the diverse range of work by post-war Italian designer Ettore Sottsass. In the 505 he worked on the first generation of computers for Olivetti and in the 80s he established the Memphis design group. Sottsass, now in his eighties, is still busy with new projects in his studio in MilanJ’arr of Glasgow 1999.
Jessie M. King 1875-1949 Until Fri 3 Sep. (Mackintosh Building). A celebration of the life and work of one of Scotland’s most influential female artists, in this the 50th anniversary of her death. King studied at Glasgow School of Art and later went on to teach book illustration and ceramic decoration at the art school.
Looking For The Perfect House Until Sat 11 Sep. (Mackintosh Building). The results of French architects association ‘Peripheriques’ challenge to 36 European architects to design an individual three- roomed house with a garage and a garden costin under £50,000.

A tour of the Homes For The Future site, a £10 million housing development comprising one hundred homes all designed by leading architects from around the world. Both public and private housing will be created with the aim of combining innovative architecture with urban renewal. Part of Glasgow 1999.
Home Until Sun 24 Oct. To complement the Homes For The Future development, this exhibition looks at the project in the context of the development of the house in the 20th century and addresses various aspects of home design for the future. Part of Glasgow I999.
HUNTERIAN ART GALLERY

Home to the university’s collection of art and sculpture and an on- going programme of temporary exhibitions, the Hunterian also features a re-creation of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Glasgow house which contains original furnishings. Celebration - Ten Years Of Collecting 1989—1999 Until Sat 16 Oct. To celebrate the gallery’s refurbishment, an exhibition of over 1500 works which have been added to the collections since 1989. Among the acquisitions is a rare 20th century painting by Stanley Spencer, a 16th century Chiaroscuro oil by Luca Camiaso plus works by the Scottish colourists, furniture and designs
by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and prints by George Stubbs and Lucian Freud.

THE LIGHTHOUSE

Converted from Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s first major public building and former offices of The Herald, this new venue is the home of Scotland’s centre for Architecture, Design and the City. Providing two main exhibition galleries and smaller display areas, there are facilities for conferences, education and IT suites, a shop and a cafe. On permanent display, the Mackintosh Interpretation Centre documents the life and work of Glasgow’s most famous architect~ designer.
Alexander Thomson: The Unknown Genius Until Sun 19 Sep. Nicknamed ‘Greek’ due to his classical style, Alexander Thomson (1817—75) was responsible for making Glasgow a great Victorian city. His achievements however, have been overshadowed by those of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and this retrospective exhibition curated by Murray Grigor and Dr Gavin Stamp seeks to redress the balance. Vanity Cases By Philippe Starck Until Sun 31 Oct. A retrospective of the work of Philippe Starck, a prodigious designer in the 805 who shows no sign of slowing down. The exhibition features examples of his designs in miniaturised form, displayed in specially made vanity cases. Part 0 Glasgow 1999.
St in e's Safe Environment Project Until Tue 31 Aug. Pupils at St Jude’s Primary School in Easterhouse worked with architects, landscape designers and artists to discover more about design and design process. This exhibition documents the results of their studies with views of design for schools in the future.
One Foot Taller Until Sun 26 Sep. (Review Gallery). Designers Will White and Katarina Barac who formed One Foot Taller design and manufacture company in 1995, present an exhibition of recycled and batch produced houseware.
