Welcome!
I am delighted to introduce this specialVisual Arts Guide produced by The Audience Business in assooation with The List. which has been designed to help you discover the variety of exhibitions on offer during the Festival.
The visual arts in Scotland have never been so vital. with increasing numbers of Scotland-based artists being shown around the world. In particular: Edinburgh's galleries and museums have excelled themselves during this important year in Scottish history. As Edinburgh-based artist Calum Colvin said. “The Visual arts during the festival are an incredible melting pot of colours. ideas. personalities. nationalities and artistic mediums. . . which promise to complement and complete the official festival experience."
There is something for everyone and I hope you will take the opportunity to experience and enjoy the variety of these exhibitions. Don't miss the gorgeous exhibition drawn from Scottish Collections at Edinburgh City Arts Centre or the experimental work by young artists at the Collective and Stills Gallery. Just a short distance from those galleries. the National Museum of Scotland explores the histo- ry of souvenirs. with no doubt some of our own local souvenirs on display. whilst at the west end of the city the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art is showing the first major exhibition in Scotland of the work of Joseph Beuys. And over 70 Scottish artists will be show- ing in the Royal Scottish Academy.
Edinburgh's Cultural Quarter is particularly easy to access on foot. with almost all of the galleries and museums in close proximity.A short bus ride will get you to venues at each end of the city centre.
There is no shortage of things for you to see and enjoy!
