Stephen Walker
The debut novel by Stephen Walker comes with a guarantee: ’you have never read anything like this in yOur life.’ Too true. Whether you want to spend time With an author who writes as though Eddie Izzard, Salvador Dali and Spike Milligan have tripped into a particularly surreal cement mixer is another matter. Danny Yates is on the run from a former nefarious magician turned nasty landlord. The help Yates receives from those he meets on his travels — scien- tists, nuns and alien ants — is negligible as the furious climax dawns. While it is certainly true that Walker was born in Sheffield, it is most unlikely that he was, as claimed, raised by wolves.
Danny Yates Must Die by Stephen Wa/ker is pub/[shed by Voyager on Mon 76 Aug, priced E 5.99.
