HUNTERIAN ART GALLERY

Home to the university's collection of art and sculpture and an on-going programme of temporary exhibitions. the Hunterian also features a re-creation of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Glasgow house which contains original furnishings. Celebration - Ten Years Of Collecting 1989—1999 Until Sat l6 Oct. To celebrate the gallery’s refurbishment. an exhibition of over I500 works which have been added to the collections since I989. Among the acquisitions is a rare 20th century painting by Stanley Spencer. a |()th century chiaroscuro oil by Luca Camiaso plus works by the Scottish colourists. furniture and designs by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and prints by George Stubbs and Lucian Freud.

Mackintosh‘s first major public building and former offices of The Herald. this new venue is the home of Scotland‘s centre for Architecture. Design and the City. Providing two main exhibition galleries and smaller display areas. there are facilities for conferences. education and IT suites. a shop and a cafe. On permanent display. the Mackintosh Interpretation Centre documents the life and work of Glasgow's most famous architect-designer.
Alexander Thomson: The Unknown Genius Until Sun l9 Sep. Nicknamed 'Greek‘ due to his classical style. Alexander Thomson (l8 l7-75) was responsible for making Glasgow a great VictOrian city. His achievements however. have been overshadowed by those of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and this retrospective exhibition curated by Murray Grigor and Dr Gavin Stamp seeks to redress the balance.
