National Museums of Scotland Applications are invited from two highly motivated. enthusiastic and effluent people to join the busy Department of Public Affairs in the Press Office, which plays a key role in providing the essential link between NMS, the media and the public. These permanent posts are based at the Royal Museum, Chambers Street. Edinburgh.

Duties will include: maximising media coverage of policy. major exhibitions, key acquisitions and VIP events; maintaining and developing a broad range of national and international media contacts; advising management on current and potential issues for NMS and the media; advising on and implementing the media strategy for NMS.

A graduate, you will have at least five years' experience of media and public relations. Experience as ajournalist will be an advantage. You will have extensive knowledge of the media. and be experienced in handling complex enquiries from the media and dealing with challenging issues. Familiarity with museums. arts and education issues will be helpful. You will relish the opportunity to plan strategically and to be proactive, and WIN thrive on solving problems. You will have first class communication skills. be familiar with IT, and be used to managing staff.

The salary range is between £21,954 and £32,930. Salary on appointment will be between £21,954 and £24,690 depending on qualifications and experience.

Duties will include: providing reliable backup for the Press Manager; dealing with individual enquiries; identifying news stories and instigating media activity on acquisitions. education programmes. events and exhibitions; organising press calls and conferences; collating press cuttings. tapes, and slide and photographic archives.

A graduate, you will have experience in dealing with the media. You will understand the importance of detailed planning, successful delivery and meticulous recording of coverage. and will be able to balance the daily administration of the Press Office with proactive media relations. You will wish to combine your interest in museums with an opportunity to develop your skills and experience in dealing with the media. You will be confident with IT, an excellent communicator. and will thrive on the demands of a busy office environment.

The salary range is between £11,743 and £23,488. Salary on appointment will be between £11,743 and £14,670 depending on qualifications and experience.
