Space Light Atmosphere Until Sat 14 Aug. Jacqueline Moon explores architectural structures and the effects of light based on Glasgow cityscapes in this new body of work. Jacqueline was awarded the Glasgow Print Studio Prize at the Glasgow School of Art degree show in 1998.

Ettore Sottsass And Associates Until Fri 24 Sep. (Mackintosh Gallery and studios). A look at the diverse range of work by post- war Italian designer Ettore Sottsass. In the 50s he worked on the first generation of computers for Olivetti and in the 80s he established the Memphis design group. A celebration of the life and work of one of Scotland's most influential female artists. in this the 50th anniversary of her death. King studied at Glasgow School of Art and later went on to teach book illustration and ceramic decoration at the art school. Looking For The Perfect House Until Sat 11 Sep. (Mackintosh Building). The results of French architects association ‘Peripheriques' challenge to 36 European architects to design an individual three- roomed house with a garage and a garden costin under £50.000.

Home to the university’s collection of art and sculpture and an on- going programme of temporary exhibitions. the Hunterian also features a re-creation of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Glasgow house which contains original furnishings. Celebration - Ten Years Of Collecting 1989-1999 Until Sat 16 Oct. To celebrate the gallery's refurbishment. an exhibition of over 1500 works which have been added to the collections since 1989. Among the acquisitions is a rare 20th century painting by Stanley Spencer. a 16th century Chiaroscuro oil by Luca Camiaso plus works by the Scottish colourists. furniture and designs by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and prian by George Stubbs and Lucian Freud.

W.Eugene Smith A solid retrospective of the American photojournalist who believed photography could act as a catalyst for social change. For four years prior to his death in 1978, Smith recorded the effects of mercury pollution in small Japanese fishing village. Dundee: Dundee Contemporary Arts, until Sun 29 Aug.

Alexander Thomson The 19th century architect, nicknamed 'Greek', who designed much of Victorian Glasgow gets the retrospective treatment. Long overshadowed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, this show finally throws the spotlight on Thomson's achievements. Part of Glasgow 99. Glasgow: The Lighthouse until Sun 79 Sep.

John Coplans Flesh exposure and the ageing process come under scrutiny in the photographs of Coplans, the British-born New Yorker who has snapped the naked human form over the years. Edinburgh: Dean Gallery until Sun 25 Jul.

THE LIGHTHOUSE

Converted from Charles Rennie Mackintosh‘s first major public building and former offices of The Herald. this new building will be the home of Scotland‘s centre for Architecture. Design and the City. Providing two main exhibition galleries and smaller display areas. there will also be facilities for conferences. education and IT suites. a shop and a cafe. On permanent display. the Mackintosh Interpretation Centre documents the life and work of Glasgow's most famous architect-designer.
