“Glasgow’s most beloved ofdeep'house, DJ 0 is in the l;studio working on his new album ,jdue'but atthe end of theyea'r and "has/popular residencies at Relief Rory Weller reminds us dis the magic letter.

Name Paul Flynn aka DJ Q, aka 0. Occupation DJ and producer. Age 24.

.Place of residence Glasgow.

What would we know him for? His album Face The Music (Filter) was released at the end of ‘97 which included the single ’We Are One' which

was remixed'by Carl Craig. Recently he's.

been Diing at the Relief night at the Arches, and Blood-at his spiritual home, of the Sub Club, however, studio commitments have seen him DJing less. How did he start? He grew up in Cranhill in the east end of Glasgow, went to house parties and bought his first set of decks from the money he made delivering newspapers. He taught himself to mix, picking up on the hip house scene coming out of Chicago. What happened next? in ’92 the seventeen year old heard Derrick May play, which changed his life. He saved up to buy the kind of tracks May was playing such as Larry Heard and Lil Louis, and got a slot on local pirate station the NHS (the National House Service). He honed his skills at Terry and Jason's Pussypower night at the now defunct lndustria where he met and was awestruck by Carl Craig (playing his first UK set, incidentally).

Did production beckon? inspired, he got heavily into (bedroom) studio work and put out his debut release East End Tracks on Gemini which, with its fresh combination of disco loops and Detroit minimalism, did exceptionally well and made DJ Pierre's end of year chart. The album for Filter came next as well as a slew of production and remix work.

So what's happening now? He's concluded his contractual obligations with Go! Beat, putting out The Red Ant EP which is getting highly charted all over the place. He's also just remixed Ken ishii, Scott Grooves and lsolee. A Q track 'Disco Partae' appears on the Glasgow Underground Volume 2 compilation.

When is the album due? Flynn says he's looking towards getting it finished f0r about September/October with a release date on Filter scheduled for November/December.
