Side orders The Tron Ptl

While it's keeping one part of its name, the former Tron Ceilidh House on Edinburgh’s Hunter Square is in the process of being completely revamped.

Now known simply as the Tron, it’s being given a makeover by the same people who have Ark, Curlers and It’s A Scream in Glasgow. Lots of bright colours, blonde wood and definitely no bric-a-brac are promised over the three floors.

Hearty portions of pub grub such as baked spuds, burgers and hot sandWiches are on the menu as is some form of as yet undeCided live mu5ic.

The new look Tron is to be aimed pretty squarely at the student market. ’lt’s students and like-minded people,‘ explained the manager. 'People like me who wanted to keep the student lifestyle but couldn't afford to stay at Unianylonger'

The Tron Pt II

Meanwhile over on the other side of the COuntry, our tale of two Trons and two Cities continues. The Tron theatre, bar and restaurant complex on Glasgow's Trongate is sprinting sWiftly towards the completion of their £5 million redevelopment.

The place is obviously something of a hotspot for our readers since it has won the bar of the year award for the last three years running in The List's Eating & Drinking awards. The latest stage of the work has seen the kitchens upgraded, an improvement which has given the three chefs a bit more space to spread their Wings.

As a result, the evening menu in the restaurant has been rewritten and is now aiming for higher standards than ever before. Typical starters now include a salad of air-dried beef, Tuscan pecorino and oven dried tomatoes at £5.45 or a caramelised monkfish and king prawn With deep- fried greens and sesame Oil. The main c0urses boast a ballantine of guinea fowl with potato and herb mousse, vine tomatoes and rosemary orl and a risotto primavera With baby asparagus and plum tomatoes finished with basil cream. Yum. (Jonathan Trew)
