Bliss ' Changes are afoot at three of Edinburgh’s more well-known bars. The Belhaven-owned Green Tree on the Cowgate has been uprooted to make way for a development that is scheduled to open later this year. Once it’s been built that IS. Apparently, rt Will trade under the name of Sea Glow which, it has to be said, has a lot more mystique than Green Tree. On a similar note, two other Belhaven boozers are being given a radical make-over. The St James Oyster Bar has been gutted and is in the process of being refitted as Pivo which just happens to be Czech for beer. Meanwhile, back at the Cowgate, the former Bare Story (an anagram of Oyster Bar, fact fans) is about to reappear as Bliss. At the time of writing, the place is far from ready but looks as though it’s going to feature lots of little glass panels and indigo thUng.
Groucho St Judes
A branch of the Groucho club is to open in Glasgow, the first time that the club has ventured outside London.
The Groucho has gone into partnership With Glaswegian entrepreneurs Bobby Paterson and Paul Wingate. A former Love and Money member, Paterson's first steps into the restaurant and bar trade resulted in the highly successful Moio.
The partnership are in the process of renovating a four storey Victorian townhouse on Bath Street. Once work is completed, hopefully in late June or early July, Groucho St Judes Will feature a basement bar, a fine dining restaurant and two floors of guest bedrooms.
Unlike the Soho club, Groucho St Judes won’t be a private members club but Will be open to the general public.
The Soho club is Virtually a home to the likes of Stphen Fry.
