This issue sees the World of Drum a Bass LP tour make a pit stop at
Edinburgh’s Jungle Magic. Due to hit
record shops in June and then probably take over the world. Simone Baird finds out why it will
be one of the drum a bass albums of
the year.
FORMATTON mm «first»: .
What's this all about then? it all started back in '97 when renowned drum & bass label Formation Records ~ headed by DJ SS — launched The Country Series, releasing ten coloured twelves each representing a country.
Rinsing out on a global tip. then? From England to Mexico, Australia to Canada —- so yes, you could say that. The releases were compiled into the Unified Colours of Drum 8! Bass album which was rather popular.
And the World of Drum & Bass? This new album will feature exclusive tracks from all around the world (hence the title, we presume). Not only will you hear tunes by DJ SS and Kenny Ken but Spasm (Japan), Kabuki (Germany) and Atom 1 (Australia) amongst others. What about Scotland. pal? Glad you asked. Edinburgh's own DJ Kid has teamed up with The General to produce The Invaders for the compilation.
Who they? DJ Kid has been playing and promoting drum & bass even before it was known as 'jungle'. He has been the saviour of many a jungle fan in Scotland by bringing the elite of drum & bass over the border to Manga at La Belle Angele and more recently, Jungle Magic at The Potterrow which he promotes. The General used to run Headrush in Selkirk, one of the first break beats nights back in the days of '91 . He has been playing Manga for the past few years and is now reSident at Jungle Magic. ,
And if I want tci‘ know more about my global drum 8. bass peers? The CD
version will be accompanied by a 'World
Directory' which will inform you of who's who and what's where; from DJs, MCs and producers to record labels, shops and distributors, you'll have the drum & bass world at your fingertips as well as in your ears.
fl Catch D} 55, MC Warren G, DJ Kid and The General at The World of Drum 8: Bass LP tour at Jungle Magic on Sat 22 May. The World of Drum & Bass is released on Formation Records Mon 21 Jun.
