'Believe it or not, Substance is one of my favourite clubs ever,‘ says Matthias Heilbronn (above), New York garage DJ, producer, remixer and international jetsetter who is set to play the first birthday bash. 'I think that it's a mentality thing in Scotland about the way people party and dance. They must know the music as well as I do because whatever record I play, they just let loose.’
Matthias speaks somewhat from a position of authority on the subject — this will be his third gig at the club, making him the most regular of all its guests. With sets and PAs from the likes of Ashley Beedle, Brian Chambers, Booker T, Kathy Wood, the Astro Trax Team, Frankie Foncett and Dave Camacho he is ahead of a very talented
bunch.
Substance‘s reputation rests with its residents — Craig Smith and Mikey Stirton are regarded as two of the best garage DJs in the country and their production work is sure to catapault them into the big league.
’Matthias has a really unique sound but still fits in so perfectly at Substance,’ says Craig Wood, promoter. ’He plays things so fresh the way Craig and Mikey play - really deep and soulful — but at the same time he knows how to rock the crowd.
