CHANNEL 4 NEWS broadcaster and former List columnist Sheena McDonald remains seriously ill in hospital after being knocked down by a police van in London. Thankfully, it is believed that the Edinburgh University graduate and patron of the Traverse Theatre has not suffered brain damage, as was first feared. The driver of the van, which was answering a 999 call, has been suspended from driving duties while an investigation is carried out. The List joins the entire journalism and broadcasting community in wishing Sheena a full and speedy recovery.
UNDER CONSTRUCTION IS the title of 7:84 Theatre Com pany’s latest production. Working with youth
and community groups under the Glasgow 1999 umbrella, the piece explores the relationship between architecture, environment and society. Promising to present ‘your city in a whole new view', the show premieres at Castlemilk Youth Complex on Wed 17 Mar. SCOTTISH ARTS COUNCIL has announced the latest beneficiaries of its Drama Projects funding. They include Benchtours of Edinburgh, who will receive £30,000 to assist a tour of The Caucasian Chalk Circle. Glasgow’s KTC pocket the biggest single award of £35,000 for their production of David Harrower's

Woyzeck. Grid Iron’s Monumental - previewed in this issue's theatre section - is the first of the projects to reach fruition. Larger grants have been awarded from the Millennium Festival Arts Fund, with £130,000 going to Raindog for their trilogy of plays about Jesus, written by Edwin Morgan and set to be staged at the Tramway. NVA receive a whopping £150,000 for a performance to be held in the Lost Valley in Glencoe.
ACTOR SIMON CALLOW, in Scotland to promote his new book Love Is Where It Falls, will take time to show his support for The Gateway, 3 unique theatre school situated at Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh.
