lunchtime. ‘I feel so passionate
about the club and the music and l‘m a wee bit starved for a good
night out up here.‘
The singer. who made her
name with Scottish rave group
The Time Frequency who performed on Top Of
The Pops and supported Prince at Meadowbank. got hooked on the clth when she moved to London six years ago to pursue a solo career with Mercury Records. A familiar face on the gay scene in Scotland. she was told to check out this Sunday morning club and immediately fell in love with the vibe.
‘l‘d never heard of it. but I phoned up Laurence Malice who runs the club and said I’d be the one in the black PVC dress.‘ she says. ‘He was like. "What you're coming in drag?" and I said “No. l‘m a woman." I clicked with him immediately. and when I went down. I thought it was just the most amazing place I had ever been to in my life.‘
Inevitany Kiani became a fixture of the club every week and quickly became personal friends with the DJs and promoters. When now deceased clubby programme BPM broadcast a Trade special. she
was the obvious choice to present. When she 5 returned to Scotland to get married two years ago.
Malice gave her a Trade DJ as an engagement
present for her nuptial knees-up. Now. desperate ; for a Trade fix. she’s decided to throw herself into the role of club promoter. Out in Australia to work ’ on new material and to perform on the Trade float

at the Mardi Gras. she saw how easily the club could cruise the world and decided to see how Trade would look in a kilt. ‘lf Trade can travel all the way to Australia and get it right. then surely it can travel tip to Glasgow.‘ says Kiani.
Her decision to bring the club to Glasgow marks a new confidence. Kiani has been buoyed by how well her latest material has gone down in Australia. and her new record company Transistor want her to work with the producers who recently took Cher to the top of the charts. Currently her ‘people’ are out in Cannes finalising a publishing deal. and her work is even being considered for other singers. After an unsatisfactory period with Mercury. when she says she was ‘just one of those acts that got lost in the company". Kiani now feels much more positive about her career and the rise and rise of her status as a gay icon.
But what she‘s really looking forward to is getting glammed tip for Trade. where she‘ll work the tiaras and fancy frocks and. in her words. imitating a drag queen. Mary. Queen of Scots in more ways than one. (Rory Weller)

BIG BEAT TAKE over the world. The company that own The Tunnel, Cul De Sac and twenty other units in Scotland are taking the world by storm, and that's official. Not only are they opening 'Home‘ clubs in New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dublin and London but the five directors of Big Beat International all appear in a recent poll by Muzik Magazine of the 50 most influential people in the club world. That's Ron McCulloch, original founder, John Reynolds, owner of the Pod and Boyzone's manager, Darren I-Iughs, formerly of Cream, Paul Oakenfold and Eddie Gordon (Pete Tong's manager). COLOURS IBIZA WANT to know what are you up to between July and September this year. After three years doing one-off nights out in Ibiza, Scotland's superclub promoters Colours are the first club north of the border to get a regular slot on the island, at Es Paradis.
