THE NEW EDINBURGH International Festival Centre will open in July 1999. Appropriately christened the Hub, the former Highland Tolbooth will undergo a {7.5 million refurbishment, and will feature a ticket centre, shop, information centre, the Festival offices and a cafe. The eaterie will be run by Andrew Radford, mastermind behind the multi award-winning Atrium and Blue at the Traverse.
THE LIST EXTENDS all good wishes to Scotland’s newest publication, the Sunday Herald. The sister paper to the Glasgow based daily will be on sale from Sunday 7 February, although at time of going to press a cover price had yet to be decided - or at any rate made public (it’s not uncommon for a new paper to play

ORGANISERS OF THE 'save the Partick Market building' campaign are running a poetry competition designed to draw attention to the Victorian edifice on Dumbarton Road. The long term aim of the activists is to transform the building into a centre for Scottish and celtic culture which will serve as a community hub and attract artists from across the world. Those of you with rhyme on your hands should send up to three poems to Poetry Competition, 206 Dumbarton Road, G11 6AA. Include your name and address on each page submitted. Closing date is 28 February.
