Gimme Five
Based on the popular Ernest Reid concerts for children in England, Children’s Classic Concerts formed in 1993 determined to quash the often stuffy image of classical music, and prove that you're never too young to enjoy the finer things in life. Aimed at 4-14-year- olds, the concerts were a sell-out from the start, with the orchestra from Scottish Opera, the RSNO and the SCO all playing their part in its success.
Any potential wandering of young minds is kept in check by Artistic Director and former kids TV star Atarah Ben- Tovim, who along with guest presenters Floella Benjamin and Robert Dean make the shows as visually pleasing as they are

Education has always been the foundation of the organisation, and while every concert features a post-show quiz, there is also major involvement with local primary schools and this year sees the launch of the Glasgow Young
With a programme of five Glasgow and three Edinburgh concerts lined-up this winter, a ’Best Of' tape already available and a second CD on the way, there’s certainly no sign of the series faltering. And of course, the old adage 'get 'em while they're young‘ still holds true, as Chairman Raymond Williams is more than aware: ‘We not only give children musical choice, but are creating classical music audiences f a Children’s Classic Concerts: Now We Are Five!
