While the re-opening of the People's Palace is a core attraction of the oin s-on, there is plenty for just about ever one in Maydaze. 9lights are a specially-commissioned wor by George Wyllie entitle the Maydaze Pigeon, The Kit Carey Jazz Band, the Beltane Fire Spectacular on Glasgow Green and the May Day Rally with compere Dave Anderson and music from The Felsons (below) and Tartan Amoebas.

Robert Louis and Irvine across the ale houses of the city. Now that summer is nearly upon us. the tour reverts to its Thursday to Sunday programme.
Beltane Fire Festival Acropolis. Calton Hill. info: 558 9555. 10.30pm. Free. Despite their horrendous financial plight. the show certainly goes on this year. The 90-minute procession continues onto The Venue where more entertainment will occur into the very wee small hours. The festival is a reincarnation of an ancient fertility rite celebrating the return of summer. The event is free but donations will be more than welcome.

TRYST FESTIVAL 98 Various venues, Falkirk, info: 01324 506850. Until Fri 1- Sat 23 May. This festival is a tribute to the the largest gathering of cattle, sheep, horses and the like in Europe as drovers from all corners gathered to pick their beast. Until Arab Strap, this is what put Falkirk on the map - no sign of the band during the month but there are other hip young things appearing)such as The Manfreds, The Temptations and The Supremes. Film plays a ig part with showings of Boogie Nights (below), Taxi Driver and some silent comedy classics. In addition, there is a fringe festival, library events and exhibitions.
