SINGLES
The Pressure: Sounds Of Blackness (ADM)
Sounds Of Blackness get the once over from the legendary Frankie Knuckles, New York's Cevin Fisher and also from the ever excellent Jazz ’n‘ Groove team. Pure garage heaven ensues. Backed by ’Hold On', an awesome slice of uplifting R & 8.
Got Funk: Funk Junkeez (Evocative) Roger Sanchez takes a big one out of the UK garage scene '. Iith this fine and funky outing. The mix of skittery beats, hip hop-style vocal ('who got the funk?‘) and the roll bassline make this surprisingly good. The Sol Brothers bring the remix.
Another Saturday Night: Maas (Soma) Quality cut from Maas’s debut album Latitude gets the remix treatment from top Brit housers Swag and Nail. Head for the off-thewall funk of Naii's take. Could You Love Me: Cooly's Hot Box (Solemusic)
Nu Yorican~style soulful grooves with tasty remix from Canada‘s excellent Crash team. Also with reworking from Dylan Barnes. The original verSion, with its jazzy vibes, is cool too.
ALBUMS
Saturn: Return: Goldie (tondon) Goldie proves yet again that he is a million miles ahead of the pack with this challenging, powerful album. Be warned though, it comes in two parts and lasts for well over two and a half hours - it isn’t easy listening. Check especially the hour long 'Mother' which mixes classical orchestration with drum 'n' bass beats.
DJ Kicks: Mixed by Terranova (“(7) The DJ Kicks series continues to provide a higher class of mix album. Here, German trio Terranova get all funky in a dubbed out, downtempo way. Highlights of a cool set come from Howie 8, Depth Charge and Patrick Pulsinger.
Rlde: Various (Tommy Boy)
Worthy hip hop compilation (and soundtrack to the film of the same name) featuring contributions from Wu Tang, Eric Sermon, The Roots and Phife from Tribe Called Quest.
