Baroque

A.J. Ramsay's on Edinburgh’s Broughton Street is the latest capital bar to be revamped and restyled. Previously a fairly traditional dark wood and brass boozer, it has now been completely refitted and rechristened the Baroque bar. Primary colours, light wood, mosaics and different wall textures define the twenty/ thirtysomething market that they are aiming for, although the

eating & drinking director

decor is several shades brighter than most. In the unlikely event of miracles and there being another sunny day this summer, then the big windows at the front of Baroque open out to let the light in.

Owned by the same peOple who run the Watershed and the Maltings, Baroque offers a lot of healthy options in the food department. Four different fresh pasta dishes compete With open sandwiches and around half of the choices are veggy-friendly. Most of the main courses are around the £4—E5 mark.

It’s been buzzing the last couple of weekends and is well worth a visit if you happen to be down that end of town. Just watch out for the barman who, allegedly, has a habit of sticking several straws together and lurking beneath the bar looking out for unguarded pints to pilfer.
