Over 200 works are featured. drawn from Glasgow‘s own collection. with major loans from around the world.

PEOPLE'S PALACE MUSEUM

Hans Christian Andersen: Life And Art Until 28 Jun. An exhibition telling the story of the life and work of this world famous author. who wrote over I50 fairy stories such as The Ugly Duckling and The Emperor It New Clothes. The show is illustrated with photographs. books and a wonderful collection of his borne-made books. papercuts and drawings. tnost of which have never been seen before in Britain.
Roots - The African Inheritance In Scotland Until I2 Jul. An exploration of the history and presence of African. Caribbean and people of African/Caribbean descent in Scotland from the 16th century to the I990s. The show draws the attention of Scots to a heritage shared with black people. Themes and topics include early travel. trade. education and fatnin life. Part of the Scotland/Africa 97 Festival.
Broad Bay Until I9 Jul. A collaboration between poet Ian Stephen and artist David Greenall taking as its theme the Hebridean island of Lewis and its maritime traditions. Greenall is exhibiting a group of paintings inspired by Stephen's brief poems. Also additional work by both artists including paintings. photographs and sculptural elements. Gifted Until l9 Jul. A selection of works acquired through the Jean F. Watson Bequest Fund featuring a selection of paintings. drawings. photographs. prints

Margaret Mellis Until 23 Jul. A retrospective exhibition looking at the career of Margaret Mellis who was closely associated with the development of the St Ives School in the 40s. Work on show ranges from early collages and colour structure paintings of the ()(Js to more recent constructions made frotn driftwood and found objects.
