They're wild, they’re aux they’re completer barking mad. Rory Weller tips his hat to the hip hop breakbeats and many-splendour“ pranks of Bentleykhythm Ace.

Name Bentley Rhythm Ace aka Mike and Barry.
Origin Birmingham. . Occupation Hip pop breakbeat duo up to no good. ~ History? Mike is a former lighting man and apparently a tarmac specialist. Richard used to be the bass player in Pop Will Eat Itself.
What's with the name? It comes from a 605 drum machine. Also, they say, Bentley is a cool name, it's all about rhythm and, of course, they’re ace. What have they had out so far? ’Late Train To Bentley On C' and 'Carbootechnodisco'.
Odd names. Do they go in for this much? Try 'Why Is A Frog, T00’ and 'Who Put Born In The Born Diddle Bom Bom'.
I take it they're not taking things too seriously then? You could safely assume that. It's no coincidence that the name of their band spells out BRA. They're taking the tight-arsed trip hop scene and tickling them until they’re on the floor crying.
And how does this come across in their live show? When they played at the Ministry Of Sound it was from a full- size polystyrene car (which they later trashed), and at Brighton's Big Beat Boutique, tired of pretending to play along to their DAT machine, they mingled with the audience and did balancing tricks with cigarettes.
What else do they do for fun? Apart from various illegal things they favour trawling round car boot sales looking for the oddest of records to sample. The two pursuits combined is most likely responsible for the bizarre ’Running On The Spot‘ — probably the first dance track to be entirely based around peOple tap dancing.
Bentley Rhythm Ace play ’live' at Pure on Fri 76 May. Their new album Bentley Rhythm Ace is out now on Skint Records.
