A View From The Bridge Tue I‘)-—Sill 23 Nov. 7.30pm. £6 (£3). Arthur Miller‘s powerful drama about illegal Italian immigrants in New York transferred to a

Scottish setting by fActionaI Theatre and the Talbot Association. Originally established as a night shelter. the Talbot Association now offers residential care to 270 people. For this project. six professional actors and technicians are working alongside eight rehabilitating drug users and alcoholics. on a set designed and built by Talbot Association members.

I INDULGENCE is a word with numerous connotations; as London-Irish perionnance

group Desperate Optimists have discovered in creating their show ot the same title, which visits Glasgow and Edinburgh this tortnight. One example is the idea - once popular in the Roman Catholic church - that absolution tor sins could be acquired via a financial settlement with the priesthood. For the shallow oi pocltet, a cheaper source or ‘indulgences’ was believed to be the summit of oroagh Patrick, a mountain in Ireland. And it was here, among the swirling winds oi County Mayo, that ideas

began to form which shaped the show . . .
