I FRANKIE BOYLE is the proud current holder of the Avalon/Dain Telegraph Open Mic Award. Unanimoust placed first at the Scottish semi-final (by a panel including The lists theatre editor), he went on to take the final during the Edinburgh Festival. Currently supporting Jeff Green on tour, he has long been a regular at Edinburgh’s comedy club The Stand, and a bright future beckons. If you reckon you’ve got a talent for stand-up, don’t be stowing your funny bone under a bushel. Applications are now invited for the 1997 award, which is open to anyone over 16 who’s never been paid for a stand-up gig. Would-be mirth-makers should contact Avalon on 0171 734 6677.
