THE ROYAL OBSERVATORY, EDINBURGH VISITOR SERVICES MANAGER
3 Year Fixed Term Contract
The ROE is part of the Particle Physics and Astronomy
Research Council (PPARC) and is engaged in forefront science
and technology. The Visitor Centre exists to promote the public understanding of astronomy and science, and the
work of the Observatory. lt welcomes about 20,000 visitors a
year and is actively seeking to expand its appeal.
As Visitor Services Manager you will ensure that the “visitor experience" is of the highest quality in all aspects. This will involve direct interaction with visitors, and supervision of part-time staff dealing with the public. The post requires a dynamic individual with the enthusiasm and drive to play a key part in Operating and developing a state—of—the~art astronomy visitor centre.
You will be an excellent communicator, ideally with some
computing skills. Experience in the tourist industry, preferably
in the operation and development of a visitor attraction, would be an advantage. An interest in astronomy would be an asset. You must hold at least 5 Standard Grades (band 3 or higher). or equivalent, including English Language and 2 Higher Grades (band C or higher). or equivalent.
Starting salary will be in the range of £11,208 pa to £14,307 pa dependent on qualifications and experience. Movement up the scale to a maximum of £16,496 pa will be dependent on
