Scottish Opera is Scotland's national opera company, and one of Britains largest organisations, providing opera at all scales.

The Technical Department of Scottish Opera requires the following staff.

Each post is offered initially for the 1996/ 97 season, from September I996 through to June I997.

PRODUCTION MANAGER

Tobe responsible for the construction of scenery and props. This is a senior position within the Technical Department. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a wide range of experience in the field of large-scale theatre and opera.

CHIEF STAGE TECHNICIAN

To be responsible for the running and maintenance of the Stage Department at the Theatre Royal. Candidates are expected to have no less than five years experience of working with large-scale theatre.

RUNNING PROPS MASTER/ MISTRESS

To be responsible for coordinating all the props requirements in rehearsal, running shows at the Theatre Royal and on tour. Props making skills an asset.

ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER

In addition to ASM duties the successful candidate will be expected to operate supertitle equipment, for which training will be given. Candidates should have experience of working in opera and be able to read music.

SOUND TECHNICIAN

To be responsible for sound, CCTV, communications and supertitling equipment. Candidates should have experience of mixing live sound.

ORCHESTRA PORTER/DRIVER

To assist with the moving and setting out of orchestral instruments. HGV Class I Licence required.

A clean driving licence is preferred for the above posts

All of these posts are based at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow but successful candidates will be expected to tour with the Company.

We are seeking to appoint a member of staff to work on a part-time basis during University terms to support the work of our busy Welfare Office based at our Jordanhill campus in Glasgow.

The Association provides a wide range of services to its members, a key area of which is the provision of Welfare advice. You will join our team of professional advisers and will be responsible for dealing with ongoing casework and general drop in enquiries.

The successful candidate will have had experience of providing welfare advice and be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills. You will be expected to work with and develop student volunteers. The hours of work will be 10-2 pm term-time only.
