A bit cheaper than T In The Park, this teatures the magnilicently named ‘Cutted Slipper Pipers Ceilidh Band’ (which would seem to cover most eventualities) and the Edinburgh Samba Band. But as ever, the really important note is that there will be beer and good food available.

I SCOTTISH TRANSPORT EXTRAVAGANZA Sat l3/Sun l4. 9am—6pm. Glarnis Castle. on the A94. 5 miles SW of Forfar. £5 (£3). The extravaganza is on Sunday with over 600 vintage vehicles booked in.
Among the entertainments are a triple- wlteeled wall of death. a gladiator thrill ride and. gasp. Mackortg: the largest inflatable gorilla itt the UK.

There's a hill race itt the morning. bttt the real action starts at noon with a raft race. followed by the usual round of displays by the Sea King helicopter team. model boat club. canoeists and lifeboats. Customs And Excise bods will be doing art exercise with their sniffer dogs' at l.45pm. attd the day finishes up with a parachute display.

Paul Carline of the Edinburgh Shop Wind Things is irt charge of this workshop. to which kids of all ages are positively encouraged. All materials are provided attd at the end of the afternoon you should (with a bit of help frortt the kids) have a decent kite to fly around the museum. The four acres of Prestongrange are open every day. I lam—4pm and there are a decent number of things to take up your time. Cafe serving tea artd coffee.

Not strictly a Day Out. but these 45-minute tours of the notorious Mary King's Close are definitely worth a shot for anyone with a remote interest irt things X-Files -related. The close is the
one which was bricked up by the City Fathers durittg the outbreak of the plague itt l645. leaving its inhabitants to die attd rot. What pleasant people.
