ll Vanessa Paradis snorted coke to your song on film, you’d expect to get a bit of cash, but Glasgow o.) and producer Colin Walker and his studio partner Andy Marshall didn’t get a mention in the credits for Elisa, even though they claim to have done all the work.
Go back live years, and Walker was studying Quality Management at Galashiels College of Textiles. lle hooked up with fellow student Andy Marshall and together they made ‘an incredibly bad track’ influenced by the Detroit school which they punted round the labels. Guerrilla offered them a deal, but they decided to go with up-and-coming local independent limbo Records.
Walker and Marshall were now Probe and their records were being championed by the likes of Oakenfold and Weatherall. Offers of work abounded, but they were contented working as Probe until club boys Burger Gueen came along with the promise of a track on the muscular mega-club label Ministry of Sound. lluggy and Craig made the trip down to Gala to work on the track, but apparently the work wasn’t shared equally.

We were very naive at the time, didn’t really know what we were doing, and as a result Burger Gueen have been credited on the film Elisa, the record and on any press.’ lle is sure that money has been made from the film and he’s got his suspicions of where it’s gone. Talking for Burger Gueen, Craig orysdale says that he himself wrote the track and that Marshall and Walker only did the production and engineering.
Stung a little, they took a break until fifteen months ago when they started recording with the new Glasgow label Sugarcube, run by Chris l(eegan (manager of 23rd Precinct) and Boney (Colours). With Sugarcube they work under three names - llew York Alliance, Yoni, and Marshall and Walker - producing East Coast America-based house. Walker tests out GATs of his new tunes at Tonka, his innovative Saturday night club and, if they bomb, he doesn’t even consider putting them out. So far all of the tracks have featured in the Cool Cuts and Buzz Charts, and their most recent track ‘Space Cadet’ got 5/5 in Mlxmag. Even if they haven’t had the recognition they deserve in the past, they’re starting to get it now, film or no film. (llory Weller)
