The highly acclaimed Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group present the Gilbert and Sullivan favourite. which is set in the Tower of London during the 16th century. A little more lyrical and heavyweight than their other operettas. Yeomen of the Guard features some strong ensemble pieces. particularly the double chorus of the Yeomen and the Street People in Act I.

After the concert. audience members can question the conductor and musicians and even have a shot on various instruments.

The performance is linked to an educational project with composer Alasdair Nicolson and Lothian Region schools. and it is hoped that one of the resulting compositions will be premiered tonight.

Claire Bradshaw and Catriona Smith are the siblings of the title. and Elizabeth Vaughan‘s lively turn as the Witch is also worth a mention.
