I llama? Ege Bam Yasi.
I Occupation? Long time proponent of acid (the music) and all-round good egg. ' I What? Acleed, day-glo smileys and all that? Ege. or James as he's known to his hen-house pals, claims to have been making acid even before he knew what acid was. He says that the explosive rise and abrupt demise of the acid scene did terrible damage to true acid.
I llovr is he involved? As well as composing and producing records, practically every weekend you’ll find him somewhere around the country performing, be it Back To Basics, Megadog or his home town favourite, Pure.
I llorv did he get into it? He was the bass player in a band called The Mississippi Groo'veis, rehearsing in a ‘musical commune’ up in the Highlands. Wandering into the next cottage, he discovered a band using 303 and 606 synthesizers (the foundations of acid) and was immediately hooked.
I So tvhat's be up to now? He's got a new single out called ‘Remont' that he made in collaboration with Vince Clark (or Cluck as he calls him) of Erasure fame. He’s also got a new album out shortly which- features the egg man moving away from his beloved analogue for the first time and getting into midi.
I Is that important? One of the things about acid was how it tended to be created on pretty basic analogue machines that squelched their way along the bass lines. Now though, with money from a publishing deal, he’s gone midi (keyboards and computers talking to each other) crazy.
I Will the music sound any dltiererrt? it‘s more techno than acid, really. With. access to this new technology, Ege is managing to realise music that has been in his head for years.
I to say: What can you say to a man in a chicken head?

I Mean Streets at The 13th Note (basement). Spur-midnight. Free. The club that ably charts the history of rock and roll from Elvis to Portishead.
I lull First Anniversary at Glasgow School of Art. 10pm—3am. £6 (£5). 20 Oct only. Spiral Tribe. aka Network 23. with a live three-hour dub set. DJ Jeff and NAI residents Larz and Shandy.
I Parklife at Rooftops. 10.30pm-3am. £3.50 (£3). The original post-mod club still playing the Bn'tpop you love. Drinks promos. 20 Oct, Parklife celebrate their first birthday. 27 Oct sees the introduction of the Parklife club card to reward regular attenders.
