I And just how tall is Tall Paul Newman? He’s quite tall. 6ft ()in to be exact
I My that is tall, does he look like Paul Newman too? No. only a namesake.
I Shame, what’s his story then? Well. you could say it all started when he became involved in London pirate radio stations Touchdown atid CLR. broadcasting from tower blocks and hiding from the police.
I Dr? On the other hand. you could say it all really happened when his dad bought Turnmills. the venue of one of the countries top gay all nighters. Trade.
I Hey, lucky guy. I bet daddykins pulled all the strings to get young Newman on the decks Apparently not. Newman first got his taste of deckdom helping his mates run a mobile disco. Later on he did actually become involved in Pirate radio. using the name Decktrician. mixing tip hard house alongside the original junglists. I Come on, pater owning a club must have helped a bit? Tall Paul worked his way through the club. from cleaning the toilets to cashing up at the end. For a while he DJed at the Turnmills Friday night. btit he knew that he really wanted to work Saturday nights (Trade).
I So bit of a word to dad and Bob’s your uncle? Perish the thought. Tall Paul slipped the promoter a tape who liked it and gave him a slot at the end of the night.
I The otheron must have thought it was a bit shady? Of course. btit as Paul says. ‘l'm sure if l was crap I wouldn't have been there much longer.’ He quickly earned himself the title King of llardbag thanks to his spots at Trade and Heaven and for his own tracks: Rock the House and Train of Thought (as Fscrima).
