Rory Weller answers those crucial queues
I Name? Chris and James.
I Occupation? DJ 5. producers and remixers.
I Age? 25 and 23 respectively. I A DJ duo, we haven’t had one or those yet. How did that come about7Chris started talking to James in the toilets of the Gardening Club thinking he was J ames’s twin brother who he knew vaguely.
I Hey, comedy situation Once the tears of embarrassed laughter were wiped away. they discovered they were both “sad record trainspotters’ with a burning desire to make it as DJs. I So bright lights and fame? Not exactly. Chris (a student at the time) and James (a printer) secured a slot at James’s local pub in Romford. No pay. no free drinks and no nuts, but they got the practice they needed. Spotted by Gardening Club promoter Shelly Boswell they worked their way through the nights of the week, ending up residents at the Saturday night Club For Life.
I Always the two of them together? Pretty much. They‘re a DJing duo who make the set flow by playing two records each.
I And In the studio too? They always work as a team. Chris claims that the C&J soundjust doesn’t happen unless they’re both there. As well as having some pretty huge club choons of their own they‘ve added their vibe to remixes of such major names asJNXS. Chris Rea. EMF. Salt “n’ Pepa and DzReam. So the formula does seem to work.
I They haven’t got a helluva high profile though Not really. They think that the thirty- something DJ/producers; Weatherall, Healy, Oakenfold are getting all the publicity. People have been calling them the young whippersnappers, possibly a bit ofjealousy creeping in there from the wrinklies on the club circuit. Chris and James play the Tunnel 0n the last Saturday of the month,
