I EYEMOUTH SEAFOOD FESTIVAL Sat l7/Sun l8. 10.30am—5pm. The Harbourside. Eyemouth. £1 (children free). Two days of seafood. music. art and dance. Sounds delicious. Worth combining with a trip to the l.ammermuir Horse show which is being held just up the road at Ayton Castle (Sun 18. from 9am. entry £2 per car). or a walk along the cliffs at St Abbs Head.
I MELROSE SUMMER FESTIVAL Sun 18—Sat 24. Various venues around Melrose. 01896 822555. A fancy dress parade through the town and crowning of the Festival Queen on Thursday evening lead up to the main event: a procession round the town and surrounding villages on Saturday (9am—noon). This is followed by sports and a pipe band display.
I PEEBLES BELTANE FESTIVAL Sun 18—Sat 24. Various venues around Peebles. 01721 720138. Pipe bands. cavalcades. processions and concerts feature heavily in this annual festival. Wednesday evening sees the installation of the Cornet and Warden and on Thursday evening there is a fancy dress parade. The Beltane Queen is crowned on Saturday before the Beltane Fair at Haylodge Park (from 9.30am) followed by professional athletic sports (from 2pm. £2).
CENTRAL & TAYSIDE
I ULTRA 30 GRAND PRIX Fri 23—Sun 25. Dundee Waterfront. Free. Three half-hour races take place every day between the thirty foot yachts of the Ultra 30 class. The one tnile race circuit runs between the
road and rail bridges and is close to the waterfront to allow maximum viewing enjoyment. First races commence: Fri. 11.45am: Sat. 1245me Sun. 1.30pm.

I OLD TOWN FESTIVAL Sat 17-Sat 24. Various venues round Edinburgh’s Old Town.
Full programme from Tron Kirk, High Street (0131 220 1637). The festival kicks off with a Gala Day on Sat 17, 11.30am—4.30pm, with family entertainment in South Gray’s Close and many of the closes off the High Street hosting different events throughout the day. On Sunday 18, 2-5pm, the High Street and Crassmarket will be filled with vintage vehicles and classic cars. Free tours of the Old Town take place every day, leaving Cannonball House, Castlehill at 2pm and 7pm. See Theatre and Classical Music listings for other events during the week.

i I AVIEMORE BALLOON FESTIVAL Thurs
15—Sat 17. Various venues around Aviemore. Free. If you've got your List
early and are heading up north for the weekend. there'sjust time to take in the hot air over Aviemore. The festival takes off at 7pm on Thursday. with a mass assent over Aviemore Mountain Resort followed by a tethered ‘flare up' at 10pm beside the ruins of Rutbven Castle at Kingussie. On Friday the craft will be on the Four Seasons lawn from 2.30pm before taking off at 6pm for a Catch The Hare mountain bike challenge. The event ends on Saturday evening with entertainment and barbecue at the Aviemore Mountain Resort from 9pm. culminating with a midnight balloon glow. I BON ACCORD STEAM ENGINE RALLY Sat 24/Sun 25. 10am—5pm. Hazlehead Playing Fields. Aberdeen. Free. Car parking £4. A festival of steam vehicles of all shapes and sizes. Craft and trade stalls. displays. a vintage fairground — remember the ‘cakewalk‘l’ — helicopter rides and many other attractions give this the makings of a classic Day Out.
