he BBC’s Clothes Show is coming to
Scotland between 17—20 June. bringing all the glamour and
excitement of the catwalk with it. An estimated 40.000 visitors will join the party at Glasgow’s SECC as Britain’s top-name designers. key high street stores and leading fashion colleges unite for the fashion and shopping event of the year.
All levels of the fashion world will be represented. from top Scottish and international hairdressers. to fledgeling designers with their finger on the pulse. A spectacular fashion show in a specially built 3.000-seat theatre will be the event’s focus. giving visitors the unique experience of a live catwalk show. And at grass roots level. young Scottish designers will be able to showcase their work, attracting the gaze of thousands of fashion enthusiasts.

'3' THE FASHION STAGE The Clothes Show catwalk hosts non-stop action all—day. every- day of the event. and ticket—holders have to Choose between five or six shows staggered at 45 minute intervals throughout the day. Helen Storey, John Richmond, Paul Costelloe and leading Scottish knitwear designer Rina Da Prato are amongst those showing their wares. Top models have been promised, but as yet organisers are keeping their cards close to their
chest with Marti Pellow’s girlfriend Eileen C atterson the only ‘name’ to be confirmed so far.
03° THE DESIGNER PAVILION Your chance to buy the clothes off the models’ backs. All garments seen on the catwalk are backed up in the designer pavilion. with stands carrying end-of- range items. one-offs and previews of next season‘s collection. much of it at knock-down prices. The home front is well represented with key Scottish designers Sarah Lawrence, Jacqui Burke. Kathryn Erskine and the Mad Tarts. while the next generation snap at their heels in an M & S sponsored ‘Design for the Millennium‘ competition featuring seven Scottish colleges. The bright lights of the high street are represented by Komodo. Hoi Polloi. Schuh and Col Goi. Look out for stalls with vibe like Bass Couture. known for its habit of shipping in DJs and dancers to keep visitors entertained.
6* THE HAIR AND BEAUTY THEATRE Charlie Miller. Vidal Sassoon. Alan Edwards, Toni & Guy. Taylor Fergusson. Clinique and Daniel Field are just some of the hair and cosmetics experts lined-up to offer make-overs, hints and tips. Sessions last up to an hour with a different running order for each day of the show.
6. THE RAD|01 DEMONSTRATION STAGE Radio 1 provides a roadshow-style platform for a host of hair. beauty and clothing companies with plenty of freebies being thrown out into the crowd. Entertainment is provided by the likes of
Exclusive modelling competition
ove over Kirsty Hume, the next generation of Scots supermodels is tugging at your designer togs. Or at least it will be after The List’s exclusive Sebastian Haircare/Paterson S. A. competition teases out the supermodel in two lucky winners.
Up for grabs is a professional make-over and a photographic shoot worth £500. The winners — one male, one female - will receive their new look at the first Sebastian/Paterson S. A. Show, to be held at Edinburgh’s Maybury Conference and Banqueting Centre on 4 July. The photographic shoot will later give winners the raw materials for a portfolio - the first step in any model’s career.
To win this chance to launch yourself into the modelling world, all you have to do is send us a photograph of yourself. Entries will be judged by Scottish Hairdresser of the Year, Edinburgh’s George Paterson, and editor of The List, Lila Rawlings.

4° MAKEOVER AREAS The word is out that top model agency Storm will be sharking round for new talent throughout the show, so light off the competition with a quick visit to one of the main makeover areas. And if the Storm posse fail to recognise your potential as the next Kirsty Hume, you can still make the covergirl/bloke by having your face superimposed onto the front of the Clothes Show Magazine. Remember, makeovers are usually popular so book early. 0

By Bus A single decker bus service from Union Street, Glasgow (outside Central Station) will drop you at the front door of the SECC;
By Road Leave the M8 motorway at Junction 19 and follow signs for the SECC. Enter the SECC’s 3,000-space carpark from Finnieston Street. Pay as you leave — £2 per vehicle;
By Bail The SECC station is closed temporarily.
