Rory Weller answers those crucial queries
broadcasting on
from the start to finish of tabs-nary
art school radio
Name? Ton and a Half. Occupation? Radio Station.
Age? Two weeks.
Isn’t that a bit of a heavyweight name for a baby? it refers to the 150th anniversary of the Glasgow School of Art. where it‘s based. Paint drying on the radio, riveting. N0. although broadcasting from the Art School the contributors are students from Caledonian. Strathclyde and Glasgow Universities too.
So what’s being broadcast? During the day it‘s mainly speech based. then at night the more serious music takes over.
What do they talk about? Allsorts: Listy type reviews. comedy. pressing issues. and also some seriously bizarre stuff.
And the music? Eclectic isn‘t the word! From jazz to dub techno. bhangra to hard house provided by a wide mix of local and national club DJ 5, performers and music lovers.
But is it any good? in the main it's incredibly good. even the bad bits are good. The only really atrocious parts are when they try too hard to be funny.
Where can I hear it? Greater Glasgow on 105.4 FM (spawning thejoke ‘That‘s 041 if you‘re outside Glasgow, which if you’re listening to this you can‘t be‘.) When? Every day this month from eight in the morning until really. really late.
That’s a bit vague isn’t It? As long as you phone in to tell them you‘re still listening they’ll keep going. Interactive or what.
Why only a month? it's very expensive to run, about £5000 a month. The original Glasgow student radio Sweet FM returns in March though.
What to say Don’t touch that dial. What not to say This is the comedy show (repeatedly).
