Derreck reckons he can serve writs where others fear to tread. I Countrywomen (BBCZ) 8--s.3()pm. New series for the green welly brigade about women who work in the great outdoors. The series starts with a programme about Dawn Warr. the only female gamekeeper ill Britain to run a shoot.
I Ceott Hamilton’s Cottage Gardens (BBCIZ) 8.30-9pm. More from the rural idyll with a new series which will enable viewers to ‘bring a breath of fresh country air into gardens everywhere'.
I Ellen (Channel 4) 9—9.30pm. Ellen tries to track down an incriminating video tape in this classy US sitcom.
I Rising Damp (Channel 4) ‘).3()—l()pm. Reruns of the classic tenant/landlord sitcom with Leonard Rossiter and Richard Beckinsale.
I The High lite (BBCZ) ‘).30—l()pm. Victor and Barry. aka Alan Cumming and Forbes Masson. swap smoking jackets for air stewards‘ uniforms in this trashy airline sitcom. High camp. more like.
I The Day Today (BBCZ) l()--l().30pm. Repeat run of this arch. spot-on pastiche of the television current affairs format. with Steve Coogan as Alan Partridge and Chris Morris.
I Roseanne (Channel 4) 1()—10.3()pm. lt‘s ‘gay night‘ round at the Connors‘ until Roseanne discovers Fred‘s dark secret.
I Rocky II (BBCI) l().25pm—12.25am. Sylvester Stallone wrote. directed and starred in this above-average sequel to the original Rocky movie. In this one Rocky Balboa gets married and hangs up his gloves — but not for long.
I The Word (Channel 4) 11.05pm—l2.05am. As it gets worse. it just gets better.
I Hard to Handle (Channel 4)
l2. 10—235mm. First in a late—night James Cagney double bill with a comedy about a dancer whose partner does the dirty after the pair win a contest. Followed by Blondc Crazy (2.35—4am) with Jimmy and Joan Blondell as a couple who mount a sting to recoup the five grand they lost to a trickster.

I Aged 74, Margaret Tait made her directorial debut with this Scottish tilm, Blue Black Permanent, a poetic and sometimes difficult story about the family lite of three generations of women spanning tive decades. Celia lmrie, Jack Shepherd and Gerda Stevenson star in the film from 1992 which is set partly in Edinburgh and partly on Orkney. It is being screened as a tribute to producer Barbara Grigor, a tireless exponent of Scottish arts, who died shortly before Christmas.
Blue Black Permanent is on Tuesday 24 January at 11.10pm on Channel 4.

I Keepers of the Kingdom (Channel 4) 8—9pm. Stepping onto traditionally BBC- occupied terrain. this nature series looks at a microscopic world we never see. I The last Machine (BBCZ) 8—8.4(lpm. Continuing series marking the centenary ofcinema by Terry Gilliam. Probably one for die-hard fans and people with a very kitsch sensibility. I Pie in the Sky (BBC! ) 7.30—8.20pm. First in anew series of the amiable cop- in-a-kitchen drama with Richard Griffiths as the rotttnd detective who always finishes dessert before cooking the baddie's goose. I The Money Programme (B BCZ) 7.40—8.20pm. The long-running finance and business magazine returns for another series with a look at Anita Roddick's Body Shop empire which is being challenged by a new High Street name. the Bath and Body Works.

First in a new series about historical figures examines Pius X”. the controversial Pope who during War ll. was accused of staying while Jews and Catholics were persecuted. Previously unseen footage from the Vatican at the time is included ill this documentary which re-examines his reputation.

A lute Show special about husband-and-wife architects Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown who return to l.as Vegas twenty years after their ground-breaking study of a tlloroughly modern city. They regard Las Vegas as the world‘s best example of architecture designed to entertain. not confound.
