I Siouxsie and the Banshees Barrowland. Glasgow. 28 Jan. The woman in black is back — older. more graceful and possibly not quite as britnful with vitriol as she used to be. Might be a bit hard finding your hair crimpers after all these years though.
I Joe Jackson Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Glasgow. 29 Jan. Fifty-one years old this year. Jackson has never quite managed to capitalise on his successes in the late 70s or the popularity of his 1982 album Night and Day but still remains a respected vocalist. pianist and songwriter.
I Morrissey Barrowland. Glasgow. 3 Feb. Motherwell Civic Centre. Motherwell. 4 Feb. Usher Hall. Edinburgh. 5 Feb. Shunned by the music papers but loved by his legions of fans. Moz mania is set to sweep the country as cardiganed hordes riot for tickets.
I A & R Festival 6—11 Feb. King Tut‘s. Cathouse. Nice ‘n' Sleazy. The 13th Note. The Arena. As the name might suggest. this is a forum for bands to get noticed by cheque-book waving record company types. Up to forty bands will be playing a set and a lucky few will be chosen to appear on a CD compilation set. Watch out for the Supematurals. the Delgados. Slimcea Girl. the Moondials and Gold to Dust.
I Throwing Muses Plaza. Glasgow. 8 Feb. Kristin Hersh returns to Britcit with her band. The Muses paved the way for many of the female-fronted bands who are making waves at the moment. although her solo EP Strings. released last year.

I Eric Clapton SECC. Glasgow. 15 Feb. Old Slowhand (bizarre name given his fretboard skills?) brings his legendary status out onto the road. The days when he was compared to God on spray-painted
walls are long past but he can still hold his
own.
I Cyndi lauper Usher Hall. Edinburgh. 18 Feb. Never quite managed to regain her mid-80s popularity when she reached No 1 in the Billboard charts with ‘True Colors‘ but she still pulls a crowd a decade on.
I Spiritualised Electric Mainline Barrowland. Glasgow. 18 Feb. Why they changed their name is anyone's guess but they‘re still touting the same tripped—out spacey vibes.
I The Orb Barrowland. Glasgow. 22 Feb. The hall will fill up with acrid smoke and stretchy sounds and then the band will come on and the smoke machines will kick in. Hopefully they‘ll have forgotten all about Pomme Fritz.
I Jeff Buckley The Garage. Glasgow. 28 Feb. Jaws were dropping all over Britain last year when Buckley wowed audiences with his incredible vocal range. More please. sir?
I Mission The Garage. Glasgow. 1 Mar. If you missed Siouxsie. fear not. Here's another chance to get blacked up. sit on someone‘s shoulders and pretend that you're a tree and sing along to 'Wasteland’ and other pomp goth anthems.
I Gene The Garage. Glasgow. 3 Mar. Latest in a long line of bands to be compared to the Mozzer. Their debut album is more than likely to be released about now as well.
I PJ. Harvey Barrowland. Glasgow. 4 Mar. How much angrier can she get? Not that it matters as she will sound divine whatever. Any chance of another album? I Belly Plaza. Glasgow. 5 Mar. Ex- Throwing Muses' guitarist. Tanya Donelly‘s own band has never achieved the popularity which many similar combos have achieved. Could this be the year when everyone sports a Belly T-shirt with pride?

Mar. Rescheduled gig after last year‘s concert was cancelled due to a sprained joint. No news as to whether or not the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion will still be supporting them. which is a pity.
I Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine Barrowland. Glasgow. 9 Mar. It's not the same without Jon Beast really but they do have a drummer. Wes. now. Their new album. which has yet to be named. will be out about now.
I Jeit Healey Barrowland. Glasgow. 1 1 Mar. The youngish blues veteran has got a strange playing style but it works.
I Radiohead The Garage. Glasgow. 15 Mar. it doesn‘t matter what else they've done or what they go on to do. ‘Creep‘ was just sooo cool that it makes your ears
I Still little Fingers Barrowland. Glasgow. 17 Mar. Uh oh! A St Patrick‘s day SLF concert? Man the riot barricades. I Del Amitri 19 Mar. Pleasant pop for all the family putting paid to the lie that nothing ever happens around here.
I Richard Thompson Edinburgh Festival Theatre. Edinburgh. 29 Mar. The lead guitarist from the legendary Fairport Convention folk/rock outfit continues to plough a canyon as a solo artist.
I REM SECC. Glasgow. 16/17 Apr. Murrayfield Stadium. Edinburgh. 27 Jul. Watch the streets. offices and shops of central Scotland empty on these dates as everyone and their uncle heads to the gigs. I Rod Stewart lbrox Stadium. Glasgow. 3 Jun. The wrinkly rocker comes home with stacks of old favourites and probably a new wife.
I T in the Park Assuming that the relevant authorities give the go-ahead. then last year's open air bash will be repeated. probably about the same time as the Trades Holidays. The line-up has yet to be confirmed but various big name American bands have been rumoured to be making an appearance. Watch this space.
I Wet Wet Wet SECC. Glasgow. 14 Jul. Hardcore grassroots punk outfit from LA whose confrontational stage performances have raised eyebrows throughout the civilised world. Not. Pellow‘s cheesey grin can be mildly irritating though. The concert has been sold out since Rome fell so ifyou don‘t have a ticket now you never will.
