ART LISTINGS
James Cmn was a Glaswegian portrait painter who was a contemporary of Peploe and Cadell. In
the 1930s he painted a large number of famous people Including Harold Macmillan and llilaire Belloc, plus more informal landscapes and family portraits. An exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh aims to reassess his work. The piece above is ‘Ctven on a River Bank’ (1920).
