Upfront house and garage with Colin Tevendale and Stephen McCreery in Room 1, and DJ Eddie with a more laid-back funky set in Room 2. The Saturday night recreates itself, with Triumph dancers in the main room, special Saturday night decor, a hostess service in Rooms 2 and 3 and a dressed-up door policy. 12 Nov, Pete Tong guesting.

All drinks £1.50. ‘Sounds from the 603, funky 705 and lots of classic dance and indie tracks.’ I The Boat at The Tuxedo Princess. 9pm—3am. £2 (£1 with student card free before 11pm with flyer). Pronounced ‘bow-att’. Student night of mainstream indie, dance and pop of quite indescribable mediocrity. It is, however, monstrously busy and kinda good in a really bad sort of way.

I Ceroc at The Venue. 7.30—10.30pm. Modern jive from France. Includes 45- minute beginners’ class at 7.30pm followed by dance sounds from the 405 to the 903.

I Cleopatra’s 10.30pm—3am. £2 (£1 with ticket). Gary Unett and a mix of mainsteam pop and dance.

I Club X at Club Xchange. 10.30pm—3am. £1.25. Gay. Craig with a dance-orientated night. Cheap drink.

I The Horn at The 13th Note (ground floor). 8pm—midnight. Free. ‘Unnerving dreams of the old Woolworth pick ’n’ mix turned voodoo on a suddenly darkened Saturday afternoon.’ Mr Scott Horn praying that Captain Beefheart, Beat Happening, Ivor Cutler and The Pastels weigh in at under the quarter pound.

I Speedracer at The Attic (formerly the Cameo Suite). 10.30—3am. £1. Steven Moody persues his ‘NME-orientated music’ as well as a few indie-dance classics, with a heavy slab of hip hop.

Tuesdays

I Amorphus at Nice ’n’ Sleazy. 8.30prrr—midnight. Donations on the door to cover running costs. Ambient and dub through to techno and gabba with resident DJs from TAB and the Sonic Research Institute. Lager and heavy £1.25, vodka and whisky 75p a dash.

board games and let everyone have a shot-

on the Atari (Galaxion, of course). The music sounds as if they’ve raided every charity shop and rummaged about in the

depths of their parents’ record collections. I’m sure if you could mix 8-Track then they would be there doing it.

I Havana at Belgos at Bar Belgos. 9pm—midnight. Free. Latin jazz from DJ Jazz.

I Shimmy Club at Bennet‘s. 10.30pm-3am. £2. Legendary, drunken, ‘mixed’, longest—running club night in town with Craig Davis. Mainstream dance and chart. £1.10 promo beers. More girls in the boys’ toilets than boys for some reason.

I Sly at The Tunnel. 10.30pm—3am. £2.50 (£2). New student-orientated club which seems to be taking some of the more fresh-faced ones away from Bennet’s. Fine mix of music ranging from chart hip hop to fairly respectable house. I The Tardis in the Attic (formerly the Cameo Suite). 10.30pm—3am. £1. ‘A journey through space and time that takes you from the 605 to the 90s and back via rock/pop and soul’. All drinks £1.
