All AIRFUL OF
Not a lot of people know that Anthony Burgess, author of A Clockii'ork
Orange and inventor of the ape-people‘s language in the film Quest For Fire. was also a prolific composer in the English classical tradition. BBC Radio Scotland’s Ari Airful OfBurgess. broadcast on Sunday evening. features this music. with William Boyd's Homage To Anthony Burgess — A Masque as its centrepiece; a duologue between Burgess and the characters he created. How do you do that on a BBC budget? Step forward. John Sessions. whose vast repertoire of voices includes an uncanny recreation of Burgess‘s sepulchral tones. He's joined by singers. actors and musicians to re-create the author's vivid persona in what promises to be a memorable pageant. (Peter Cudmore)

Said to be Glasgow‘s
answer to John Mayall. l).B. McGlynn has
discovered musicians who wound up in Deacon Blue. Wet Wet Wet and Simple Minds. indeed. he and Ricky Ross played together in a band called Woza in the mid-80s. But he‘s been working hard on his solo career. bringing out a fine album. serving as musical director and resident singer on BBC Scotland's Virtual Reality revue and now playing at the Fringe alongside three other acts from the Sticky Music stable: Lies Damned Lies, Andy Thomton and Brian Rutherford.
McGlynn has two shows. playing solo on the first night and then bringing in a full band to reproduce the textures of his mature and accomplished Sticky album, Tr) Hell With The HumI/t'errhief. Your scribe stuck on the first couple
of tracks to get the idea.
