EDINBURGH’S HOGMANAY FEATURE
GOING NATIVE
THERE’S A confusing array of clubs running over flew Year weekend but Edinburgh’s llogmanay has creamed off three of Edinburgh’s choicest nightlife options for its party nights. Tribal Funktion, Yip Yap and Disco Inferno have all been co-opted to induce you to skank, strut and rock through the bells and beyond.
With a combination of well- orchestrated house (main room) and funk-tinged hip-hop chill out Tribal Funktion justifiably ranks as one of Edinburgh’s best club offerings. An up-for-it crowd on a seriously flew York Paradise Garage vibe packs the place out every other Thursday.
Students and an indigenous Edinburgh
clubcore alike rock out to the rhythmic nuances of the trance- tbrough-garage house soundclash. The recent AFA benefit with The Drum Club, Justin Robertson and Drde Meikle in a bursting-at-the-seams Venue was a culmination of two years hard work without the superficial embellishment of big name guest spots. Its frenzied reception was perhaps a pointer for things to come and a stormin’ llogmanay should be assured.
The stylish and garage-diva- delightful Yip Yap should add another facet of premium house to the llogmanay revels. Extremely popular yet unfortunately without a permanent home, La Belle Angele has hosted its spiritual and intimate little affairs for some months now. A divinely melodic musical persuasion,
helped by the prodigious talents of Gareth Somerville (one of Scotland's finest and largely unsung DJs), skilfully takes garage to the fringes of 90s disco and back again.
Finally trawling the depths of full-on 70s disco (in the best possible way) will be Disco inferno. aneasibly popular and heaving with devotees of the platform and the flare, this glittery tinsel-fest of a club should add a glossy veneer to the flew Year proceedings. Party on. (Bethan Cole)

There will be all the usual attractions like dodgems and waltzers. with the odd goldfish-in-a-bag. no doubt. Also some of the latest hi-tech rides to scare the living tlaylights out of you. The procession with flaming torches to Callon Hill marks the official opening of Edinburgh‘s Hogmanay with proceeds to Edinburgh and Bosnian children‘s charities. For many it could be a case of kill or cure; run round Arthur‘s Seat. then cycle round it three times and finally swim eight lengths of the Commie pool. Think you're up to it? if so. registration costs £5 and entry forms. which can be obtained from any council sports centre. have to be returned by 24 December. There is a competitors category but for ordinary mortals there is a prize draw which gives anyone who finishes the chance to win £500.

All you need is a motor with an AM radio and a few friends. Audiences are encouraged to dress warmly and bring a flask (hip or Thermos. presumably) so they don't have to sit with the engine running. The films are individually priced.
