Pianist Stan Tracey teams up with Festival debutant Bonnie Scott. lle found it slightly easier to get an CBE than a major record contract over the years, but after long perseverence with his own less than profitable Steam Records, Stan has hitched up with Blue late in a deal which lets him record new material like his ‘Portraits Plus’ disc earlier this year, and re-release Steam-age classics like ‘Under Milk Wood’. llot before time, either.

Fats Waller died on a train ride between LA and New York in December I‘M}. and this concert will focus on a tribute to his music. It is led by the extraordinary American guitarist. singer and wit Marty Grosz. who is not only a Waller specialist. but a colourful enough character to stand up to the challenge. English Waller disciple Tommy Burton. Duncan Swift. and Paul Munnery‘s Harlem Hot 5 are also on the bill.

more suitable character to present a tribute to Fats
Waller than Marty Crosz. Eccentric is the polite way
to describe the ebullient guitarist, singer and teller ot marvellously lunny jazz anecdotes, and he is certain to enliven proceedings in all three respects. Crosz can also be heard in thirteen other gigs around the FeStival, so there is no excuse for
missing out on his inimitable talents.
