I The Alt at The Tunnel. 10pm—2am. £3. The Ark returns from its holidays on 16 Jul. a fact celebrated by a million shagging pink elephants all over Glasgow. As well as new decor and an ‘awesome’ laser show. you get all your drinks for £1 between 10pm and midnight and the turntable talents of Messrs Kilkie and McKay in Room 1 and Duncan Reid and Sir Kev in Room 2 to boot.

I Shag at Fury Murry‘s. 10pm—2am. £4/£2 before 1 1pm. As crass as ever and now featuring a bonus hour at the beginning of the evening with £1 pints
and music which the DJs tell us they couldn‘t get away with during the rest of the night. Does that mean some tasteful and credible tunes for a change? Probably not . . .

TRIBAL WARFARE
Just when you thought the Solstice had ended and The Shamen were dead, out from the underground wriggles Spiral Tribe. The number of the beast shall be a tenebrous 23, the nature of ‘ the fiend shall be electronic. Terra- Technic, without walls Spiral Tribe are stealing back the Earth. Tribe spokesperson Sebastian expands the mind as to their origin, ‘Our parties were originally held in squats, then warehouses and that led us to free festivals and the search for land to party on. We’ve always looked for land that is as far away as pmible from human settlement, and in the process we’ve noticed how much of that commonland - which is supposed to be our birthright - has ended up in private hands.’
Time then to rage against the machine, to strike a blow tor the commonest of men. Sebastian continues, ‘The situation we’re in at the moment is that most people work all week and pay their taxes; at the weekend you would have thought It was everybody’s right to go and party on the land for free. Why the fuck should the system demand that we pay £25 to go and party when you can do it for nothing? We demand that the common land is ours and that at the very least the government should provide some sort of space.’
The final frontier? it seems the barriers to a good party halts at the White Cliffs. As a direct result Spiral Tribe have expanded their network
into Europe without hindrance. ‘You have to look at the parallels between Europe and what’s going on in Britain,’ relates Sebastian. ‘Our crew have been partying non-stop there, every week for the last year, and their gigs have been attracting more and more people. live weeks ago we held a party in Paris, The Bastille, right in the middle of Paris, yet the authorities didn’t have a problem with it. Why is it that they’re against free parties in this countrr? Why? I don’t know, but by God we’re going to take this one through the courts.’
Before that, Spiral Tribe will be in Glasgow, not putting on a rave, but playing live with improvised Techno. lot the whole crew, but just two people. That’s 21 away from 23. (Philip llorward)

I Tankin’ at the Art School. 1 lpm—late. £2.50. Take the upstairs option on an Art School Saturday night and receive a generous helping of hot funk. reggae and hip hop from the resident ‘Funkateers‘.
