Caryl Phillips reads from his new novel, Crossing The River, a powerful story ' A D A M T H O R P E

of two brothers and a sister sold into slavery. Phillips was born in 1958 in

St. Kitts (West Indies) and came to Britain in the same year. He has written

numerous scripts for film, theatre, radio and TV and is the author of one

book of non-fiction, The European Tribe, and four previous novels, The Final
