The Recycle cycle
It's that time of year when the Lothian Festival of the Environment swings round again. This year. although the declared focus is on recycling, there are plenty of other things to do, including hands-on clean-up events and the Environment Film Festival (see Film listings). On the public access side. there's the chance to see how the Edinburgh District Council copes with effluent and pollution control. A full programme of the week’s events is available from local libraries or the EDC Environmental Health Dept, Johnston Terrace, Edinburgh. All events are free.

In an effort to promote the joy of having the wind whistle through your hair as you pedal up Lothian Road, by-passing the stationary cars, the council are promising free scran to all cyclists who park their bikes at the City Chambers on the High Street.
