The Musical Seminar Sat 19 Sept. 7 .30pm. £6.50 (£3). The Paragon Ensemble stages the British premiere of a music-theatre piece by Gheorghe Costinescu which satirises the members of an orchestra while racing through a host of musical styles.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest Tue 22 Sept—Sat 3 Oct. 7.30pm. £5 (£3). Raindog returns to its debut hit — a powerful staging of the story of a tough guy in asubmissive mental institution based on the novel by Ken Kesey. it won a Scotland on Sunday Paper Boat Award in 1991 and is well worth seeing. Alexander Morton. Alison Peebles. Paul Hickey and Peter Mullan are among the large cast.

The Glasgow Mela Mon 14—Sun 20 Sept. Noon—10pm. 60p. Capacity crowds in previous years at Tramway have prompted this annual festival of Asian culture to move up a scale to the SECC. As well as more than 60 stalls selling Asian food. jewellery. spices and rugs, there are crafts demonstrations and music, dance, comedy and puppet performances.

Celebrated Catalan company Els Joglars makes its first British appearances here and in the Edinburgh lntemational Festival with a remarkable non-stop physical theatre production set in an asylum where madness imitates real life. No let up at the King’s which leaps straight out of the Festival intothis Royal National Theatre production of Alan Bennett’s study of a monarch off his rocker. Nigel Hawthorne gives a bravura performance in the lead role of a highly-rated production. Nightmare Mon 14—Sat 19 Sept. 7.30pm. A horror-thriller by Roger S. Moss involving newly weds, a converted chapel and a series of bizarre and terrifying incidents. The show has been a hit in Canada and apparently Moss has another two instalments up his sleeve. Dancing at Lughnasa Mon 21—Sat 26 Sept. 7.30pm. Brian Friel‘s elegiac play about the female-dominated family life of his youth was warmly receieved in its native Ireland, London‘s West End and on this tour which visited Glasgow a few months ago. It’s a subtly constructed piece that sets its own bucolic pace , craftily engaging us in its various domestic tribulations and sharp sense of humour. Dillie Keane stars. Recommended.
