Glasgow
I Chris De Burgh and Martyn Joseph SECC. Finnieston Quay. 248 3000. £16.£14.50 plus booking fee. Tickets from Just The Ticket. Virgin. Union Street. 226 4679. Can‘t think of anything nice. or evenjust interesting to say here. One man sat ata piano braying cliched sentiment. and one man singing about dolphins making him cry. But do watch out for the whip-and-chainsaw-in-bondage double routine at the end.
I A Chocolate Morning and Worldogood King Tut‘s Wah Wah Hut. St Vincent Street. 221 5279. 9pm. £3.50. Two Glasgow groups who inhabit the mellower. poppier end of the indie market. though that‘s not to say that they can‘t build up a powerful sound. it‘sjust that they do it subtly. rather than opting for the steamroller effect of many ofour grungier friends.
I MC Kinky'I‘unnel. Mitchell Street. 204 1000. 11pm. £7 (£3.50student). Tonight brings together some of the prime movers on Boy George's More Protein label. Jeremy. ex-l-laysi Fantayzee (remember? socially challenged haircuts and observations about John Wayne) DJs and MC Kinky squawks her way through a few ragga raps while looking nifty in all the latest gear.
I Wish. The Ruby Suit and The Hemingways
The Dunny. Bogle Stone. Glassford Street. 553 1638. 7pm. Free. Ten bands appearing tonight. with the line-up still to be finally confirmed.

I The Outriders Halt Bar. Woodlands Road. 332 1210. 9pm. Free.
I Wray Gunn And The Rockets Scotia Bar. Stockwell Street. 552 8681. 3.30pm. Free. I Storm Gordon Cottier’s. IIyndland Road. 357 5827. 11pm. Free. Storm was. until recently. the vocalist with the mellow Babel. Her silky tones are ideal fora late-night session like this.

I Live Music Blackfriars. Bell Street. 552 5924. 9.30pm. Free.

Edinburgh
I The Four Tops Playhouse Theatre. Greenside Place. 557 2590. 8pm. £16.50. £14.50. £12.50. Postponed from April because of Levi Stubbs‘s urgent dental problems. this will be a reminder to many just why they love pop music so much. Even ifall they had released was'Reach Out. I‘ll Be There‘. The Four Tops would have earned their place as one of the finest groups ever to pass through Motown's hallowed halls. But as we all know. they did much. much more.
I The Cowboy Set and Sublime Unemployed Workers Centre. Broughton Street. 8.30pm—lam. £3. Advance tickets only: available from the Centre. A benefit for Anti-Fascist Action and Edinburgh Unemployed Workers Centre with ‘Edinburgh's answer to The Chameleons’. The Cowboy Set and melodic hardcore band Sublime. Guest DJs Chris and Grant from Sex Beat and Soma and The List‘s own Donny Allan. Blaggers ITA. originally on the bill. have been
summoned to London to oppose a gig by Skrewdriver (who I thought were festering in a German jailanyway).
I Whining Pig Dervish and Forlteye Lord Darnley. West Port. 229 4341. 9pm. Two bands making a lot of noise in theirown very different ways. Whirling Pig Dervish are slightly shambolic and completely deranged. On one of their previous visits to the city. they covered ‘IfThe Kids Are United’ and ‘John Wayne Is Big Leggy‘ in their own inimitable fashion. Forkeye. on the other hand. redefine ‘mid-Atlantic‘ by placing themselves somewhere between NYC noisecore and Swiss body beat. Intense. and a little grim. but the heaviest band in Edinburgh.
I Shibboleth Platform One. Rutland Street. 225 2433. 9pm. Free. Pleasant rocky songs given melodic interest by violin.
I Texas Breakfast Preservation Hall. Victoria Street. 226 3816. £1 .50 after 9pm. Blues.
