This week’s review comes from Alan Jones of Music Week, the Bacardi Beat Chart compiler.

International superstars Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson dominate at the top of the chart, but local Scottish talent continues to do well, with Havana’s ‘Schtoom’ holding at number three, while D-Tex’s ‘Natural High’ comes in at number 18. These are the first two releases on Limbo, a new label set up by Glasgow record shop 23rd Precinct. The label’s third release, ‘Fight The Feeling’ by Sublime, is handily placed just outside the chart.

A recent release to watch is ‘Ebeneezer Goode’, the latest from The Shamen, which follows hot on the heels of their club chart topper ‘L.S.l’ (Love Sex Intelligence), while another newcomer is Sam Mollison, with his single ‘Will You Love Me In The Morning’, which is likely to make a big chart entry soon. Before you say ‘who?’, it’s worth mentioning that although this is Sam’s first solo single, the talented 21-year-old Londoner played keyboards on Technotronic's

huge hit ‘Pump Up The Jam’, as well as Latino Bave’s eponymous Top 20 hit.

Other rising stars are 5.17, so called because that’s the postal district of Walthamsfow (East London) from which they all hail. Jauntily incorporating Afro rhythms and borrowing from Billy Stewart’s 60s hit ‘Summertime’, it has been given a storming dancefloor mix by Danny Donnelly, and should elevate this new band (average age 19) to the upper echelons of the Gallup chart, as well as the club chart. The way their career is developing, it looks like Brian, John, Terry and Anthony made the right decision in giving up their day jobs as plumber, roofer, printer and shop assistant respectively.

Finally this fortnight, a look at some up-and-coming records further outside the chart. They include The Messiah’s brilliant remake of Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’ with Precious Wilson as guest vocalist; Boy George’s ‘The Crying Game' (produced by the Pet Shop Boys) and ‘Jam’, the up-coming fifth single from Michael Jackson’s album ‘Dangerous’.

BACARDI rum was first produced in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardi and is still today imported from the Canbbean.

The List has two selections of this week’s Top ten records in the Bacardi Beat Dance Chart to give away to two competition winners, plus a miniature bottle of BACARDI rum and a BACARDI rum drinks guide for each often runners up. Just answer the questions below and return the form no later than 4 September 1992, when a draw of all the correct answers received will take place. Entrants must be over the age of
