I Virtual Murder: A Torch For Silverado (BBC1)9.30—10.20pm. Former Dr Who. Jon Pertwee plays Luis Silverado. a frustrated brothel-keeper who takes revenge by torehing a number ofsex establishments. Our hero Cornelius runs him to ground just as he triggers the final bomb. Melodramatic or what?

I The Three Musketeers ( BBCI) 5.50-7.35pm. Richard Lester‘s gloriously over-the-top version of the Dumas classic plays it mostly for laughs. with the fight scenes verging on slapstick. Oliver Reed puts in a fabulous performance as the drunken. overweight Athos.
I Columbus And The Age Dt Discovery: In Search Of Columbus (BBC2) 7.20—8. 10pm. Mauricio Obregon introduces the last programme in the series. which traces the legacy of Columbus. and looks at how he is viewed by the different peoples ofthe American continents.
; I Fellini Fiddles, Home Burns (Channel 4) 9—9.30pm. Saturday night is Fellini night. 3 opening with this specially commissioned a documentary. examining the film i director‘s vision of Rome in moraldecay.
Followed at 9.30pm by a screening of his ‘ classic La Dulce Vita and at 12.45am. by a lot of talking heads who will tell us what a terrific film that was and what a diamond j geezer Fellini is. always buys his round. j helps old ladies across roads etc. etc. i I Encounters: Beautitul Lies ( BBCZ) l 9.45—I().4(lpm. I Europe Express (Channel 4) 8-8.3opm. The acclaimed European current affairs series with Isabella Stasi Castriota reporting from Rome. Klaus Schwagrzinna from Berlin. I My Dead Dad (Channel 4) 8—8.30pm. The fourth part ofJohn McKay's supernatural sitcom finds Eck (Forbes Masson) trying to explain away his late father's presence to his landlady Carol (Siobhan Redmond).
I Hollywood Greats: Mr Deeds Goes To Town (Channel 4) 8.30—10.40pm. Frank
C apra‘s classic comedy stars Gary Cooper as a naive country boy who inherits $20 million. goes to New York and ends up being accused of insanity.
I Floyd 0n Spain: Galicla (BBC2) 8.30—9pm. The gastronaut who's fond ofa garglc or three heads offto the increasingly-trendy Iberian peninsula for a new series of culinary explorations. The series opens in the north west where Floyd cooks up hake. potatoes and peppers with a garlic and paprika sauce.
I Children Of The Dragon (BBCI)
9.30—1 1pm. British actor Bob Peck starsin the first part of an Australian mini-series. He plays Will Flint. an Australian cancer surgeon who heads off to China to resolve a personal crisis. There he unwittingly becomes caught up in the burgeoning student protest movement. Part two tomorrow.

I Star Trek: The Cage (BBC2) 6—7pm. Trekkies rejoice as a repeat run of the first ever series begins. The Cage is the original pilot show which is screened for the first time on British TV. Jeffrey Hunter plays Christopher Pike. Captain ofthe Enterprise on her maiden voyage. who tangles with the locals on Talos IV.
I Green Pages (Scottish) 6.30—7pm. The series devoted to opportunities for improving the environment. locally and globally. Presented by Pat O'Mahoney. Shauna Hawthorne. Stephen Fulton and Gary Rimmer.
I Out (Channel 4) 9—10pm. The lesbian and gay magazine show reports on the
experiences of 30 drag-queen squatters in East Berlin in a repeated film. The Battle Of Tutenhaus. with an update on events since German reunification.

I Talking Heads— A Cream Cracker Under The Settee(BBC2)9.40—10.10pm.Thora Hird won a BAF'TA award for her role in this Alan Bennett monologue. She plays an elderly woman Doris. whose passion for cleanliness results in a fall. Lying helpless on the floor. she starts to reminisce.
IThe Woman In Hed(BBC1) iii—11.25pm. Insipid Gene Wilder comedy romance starring Kelly Le Brock as the object of middle-aged PR man Wilder's desire. Stevie Wonder sings ‘I Just Called To Say I Love You‘ along the way.
I Men Talk: Her Indoors (Channel 4) 10.15—10.45pm. Richard Jobson hosts a discussion on misogyny. asking whether men are scared of strong women and all subconsciously want to marry their mothers.
I NB (Scottish) 10.40—1 1. 10pm. Bryan Burnett and Janice Forsyth present a special edition from the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe. I Out (Channel 4) 10.45-1 1 .45pm. The final programme in the series goes out after the watershed. which may give you some clue as to the content of Rosebud, a sensual account of a young woman’s sexual awakening, and Caught Looking. a fantasy about interactive video sex games.
