TRAOUAIR IS FAIR
An essential date in the Borders’ calendar since the early 1970s, the Traquair Fair initially promoted local craits, but by 1986 had grown so large - 9000 turned up to see lt.d.lang amongst others—that a halt had to be called. Since 1990, a more theatrical and acoustic-music- orientated, but no less subdued version oi the fair has been delighting those who make it to the picturesque village oi Innerleithen.
This year over 25 different acts will be taking part. Lip Service will be pertorming their Withering Looks (an insight into the lives oi the Bronte sisters) in the Theatre Tent. Also in the tent will be The Hairy Marys, Pete Wear, and the Inside Out Theatre Company. while The Buttermountain Boys and Robin Williamson are among the acoustic musicians braving the elements with Bio Na Gael on the Little Music Stage among the apple trees of the walled garden.
Dancing, singing and storytelling will be in the courtyard and the kids' Theatre Tent will include a host oi clowns, the ubiquitous Mr Boom and the Edinburgh Puppet Company. Anyone else who can’t find a stage, and that includes clowns, comics, lire-eaters and jugglers, will be buttonholing visitors as they wander the grounds.
Once inside, all entertainments are tree, but don’t torget some cash ior the cralts and a bottle or six of the heady Traquair Ale. Food will be on sale, but

Sadly, the house, the oldest inhabited building in Scotland, is showing its years, and structural failures in a gable-end wall are necessitating repairs totalling £200,000. The bespectacled deadpan comic John Hegley will be providing a cabaret with the Kevin McKenzie Quartet on Saturday night in aid of the restoration iund.(Thom Dibdin)

‘CELEBRATION OF MARY STUART
Saturdays 8th - 15th - 22nd August 1992 The year 1992 marks the 45(lh anniversary of the birth of Mary Stuart, Queen of France, Queen of Scotland and Pretender to the English throne. What more fitting tribute to Scotland's most romantic and tragic monarch than to celebrate her life in theatre, song and feast in the place of her birth, Linlithgow Palace? Linlithgow Trust have endeavoured to create a tapestry of music, dancing, tableaux, to recreate the story of the fairest of the Stewart line.

Saturday and Sunday afternoons 18th July to 30th August On Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 18th July to 30h August, Linlithgow Players re-enact the return of Mary Stuart to her birthplace, the Palace of Linlithgow from her early life at the Court of France.
